Boutique Luxury on the Beach

The Sands at Nomad occupies 26 acres of indigenous coastal forest on Diani Beach, where powder-white sand meets the Indian Ocean. This is not a large-scale resort -- it is a boutique hotel with 29 individually designed rooms and 7 free-standing beach cottages, all furnished with hand-carved Swahili mahogany furniture and local artefacts. The intimate scale means the staff know guests by name, and the atmosphere sits somewhere between a private beach house and a luxury lodge. A winner of the 2025 World Luxury Hotel Awards in three categories, the property combines genuine ecological commitment with a level of comfort and cuisine that stands out on the south coast.

Rooms & Cottages

Accommodation ranges from Sea Breeze Rooms overlooking the forest canopy to Ocean View Suites with sweeping verandas just metres from the water. The thatched Beach Cottages sit directly on the beachfront lawn under traditional makuti roofs. For families, Ocean View Family Suites provide extra space, while the Ocean View Superior Suites add Jacuzzis on private verandas. At the top end, the Peponi Master Suite offers unrestricted panorama across the Indian Ocean, and the Beach Cottage Superior Suite -- the largest on the property -- includes a private garden with an outdoor Jacuzzi. Every room has air conditioning, ceiling fans, satellite TV, Wi-Fi, a minibar, and an electronic safe.

Dining & Wine

Four dining venues cater to different moods. The Nomad Beach Bar and Restaurant is an open-air institution on Diani Beach, serving wood-fired pizzas, sushi, seafood platters, and cocktails from breakfast through to evening. Indulge is the property's fine dining experience -- set menus prepared by the Executive Chef, paired with wines from the owner's private cellar, which holds one of the finest collections on the coast. Riva's, poolside and reserved for hotel guests, offers teppanyaki cooked tableside and open-fire grilled dishes. Produce comes from the resort's own organic farm, run on permaculture principles, and fish is sourced from local sustainable fisheries.

Diving, Spa & Activities

Diving the Crab, based at the resort, is a PADI 5-Star IDC Centre that has been running since 1985. Courses range from Discover Scuba Diving to Instructor level, with daily fun dives on house reefs and the Funguo wreck. Between November and February, whale shark encounters are a highlight. Beyond diving, guests can snorkel, kayak, kitesurf, paddleboard, sail a traditional dhow, or join deep-sea fishing excursions. The Forest Breeze Spa is set within the forest itself -- treatment rooms are housed in individual traditional round huts, using locally made organic products. Yoga classes run on a dedicated platform, and forest nature walks reveal the coastal birdlife and Colobus monkeys in the canopy above.
