Pinewood Beach Resort & Spa is a boutique 4-star property on Galu Beach, a quieter stretch of coastline just south of the main Diani Beach strip. With around 60 rooms spread across tropical gardens that attract Colobus monkeys and over a hundred bird species, it trades the scale of the large all-inclusive resorts for something more intimate. Rooms and Suites

Accommodation divides into several categories. The 36 Deluxe Garden Rooms occupy the first floor at 45 square metres each — spacious by boutique standards — with king-size beds draped in romantic netting, natural wood furnishings, and large walk-in showers. The 15 Deluxe Garden Suites double the space at 90 square metres, adding a living room, a kitchen with fridge, and the service of a personal chef who will cook in your suite. Three Luxury Garden Suites and six Ocean Front Rooms round out the options, the latter offering direct sea views from the balcony. All rooms include air conditioning, ceiling fans, mosquito nets, digital safes, mini-bars, and tea and coffee facilities.

Dining and Spa

Three restaurants and three bars keep the dining varied without the impersonal scale of a buffet factory. Bahari Restaurant handles breakfast, Peponi offers themed dinner evenings, and Jahazi Bistro serves beachfront lunches and a-la-carte meals with the Indian Ocean as your backdrop. Twice-weekly Mongolian barbecue nights by the pool and regular beach barbecues add variety. Full board rates include lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, and breakfast, with an all-inclusive drinks supplement available. The Amani Spa operates seven days a week, offering aromatherapy and Swedish massage, hydrotherapy, facials, and full-body exfoliation. Each session begins with a floral foot wash and aromatic salt scrub, and ends with complimentary Swahili cinnamon tea — a ritual that sets the tone for the whole resort.

Practical Details

The resort is 10 kilometres from Ukunda Airstrip and roughly 2.5 hours from Mombasa's Moi International Airport. A curved swimming pool with swim-up bar sits at the centre of the grounds, with tennis and squash courts, a gym, and a library for quieter moments. The neighbouring Aqualand water sports centre offers PADI-certified diving, snorkeling, kitesurfing, windsurfing, and dhow excursions.
