Diani Beach's 17-kilometre stretch of white sand and warm Indian Ocean waters make it one of East Africa's premier water sports destinations. A broad fringing reef creates a sheltered lagoon ideal for beginners, while the open ocean beyond offers conditions for more advanced activities.

Activities range from gentle kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding on the calm lagoon to high-adrenaline jet skiing, parasailing, and wakeboarding. SUP and kayaking are available at multiple points along the beach, with calm morning conditions generally best for paddling. Jet ski safaris follow the coastline with opportunities for dolphin spotting. Banana boat and donut rides provide group fun.

The main water sports operators include H2O Extreme (established 2003, Diani's first kitesurfing school), Aqualand Kenya (operating since 1998), Tribe Watersports, and the Nomad Beach Resort watersports centre. Prices start from €7 for bodyboard rental up to €285 for extended jet ski safari tours.

Camel rides along the beach, while not a water sport per se, are a quintessential Diani Beach experience available daily from beach operators at approximately €28 for a 30-minute ride. The lagoon remains calm and suitable for SUP, kayaking, and swimming year-round.

Highlights

  • Calm lagoon for beginners — the fringing reef creates sheltered, knee-to-waist-deep water perfect for first-time SUP, kayaking, and snorkelling
  • Jet ski dolphin safaris — 1-2 hour guided coastal tours with regular dolphin sightings along the reef edge. From €55 per session.
  • Beach camel rides — a uniquely Diani experience, 30-minute rides along the white sand at sunrise or sunset. Approximately €28.
  • Multiple operators including H2O Extreme (est. 2003), Aqualand Kenya (est. 1998), and Tribe Watersports
