A safari from Diani Beach offers the rare combination of big-game wildlife viewing and Indian Ocean beach time within a single holiday. Kenya's nearest national parks are remarkably accessible from the South Coast, with Tsavo East — one of the country's largest parks at nearly 14,000 km² — reachable in approximately 2.5-3 hours by road.

Tsavo East is the most popular day-trip safari from Diani. The park is famous for its red elephants, whose distinctive colour comes from dust-bathing in the region's iron-rich laterite soil. All of the Big Five are present: lions (including Tsavo's famous maneless males), leopards, buffalo, elephants, and black rhino, though rhino sightings are rare. Mudanda Rock, a 1.5 km inselberg overlooking a natural dam, is a prime elephant-viewing spot.

Tsavo West offers more varied terrain including the crystal-clear Mzima Springs — underwater viewing chambers reveal hippos and crocodiles — and the dramatic Shetani Lava Flows. It is typically combined with Tsavo East in a 2-day safari. The Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary and its iconic Salt Lick Safari Lodge — built on stilts above a floodlit waterhole — is roughly 2.5-3 hours from Diani and best visited as an overnight trip.

Amboseli National Park, famous for its backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro and large elephant herds, requires a 5-6 hour drive and is best as a 2-3 day trip, often combined with Tsavo. For the Masai Mara — Kenya's most celebrated wildlife reserve — fly-in safaris depart from Ukunda Airstrip, with the flight taking approximately 2.5 hours.
