A Decade on the Diani Wind
Kite Motion has been teaching kitesurfing on Kenya's south coast since 2015, building a reputation as one of the most respected kite schools on Kenya's south coast. Founded by Polish kitesurfers who fell in love with Diani's reliable trade winds and waist-deep lagoons, the school now runs three bases along the beach — at Soul Breeze Resort on Galu Beach, Flamboyant Boutique Hotel in the centre of Diani, and the newer Simba Oryx facility for groups and camps. All three offer the same instruction quality, the same equipment, and the same prices.
What Sets It Apart
Two things separate Kite Motion from every other kite school on the coast: a rescue boat and radio helmets. The rescue boat shadows every lesson and rental session, which means your instructor can push you further from shore without the anxiety of being stranded. The radio helmets allow real-time coaching while you are on the water — your instructor talks you through turns, body position, and kite control as it happens, not after you have already crashed. Every instructor holds a current IKO licence and insurance. Lead instructor Agnieszka Szczepanska, an IKO Level 3 with nearly 3,000 teaching hours and 376 students trained, sets the standard for the team.
Lessons and Progression
Beginners start with a two-hour demo course for EUR 120 — enough to learn kite control, body dragging, and get a feel for the sport before committing to a full course. The standard beginner programme runs six hours across multiple sessions. Graduates receive an IKO Kitesurfing Licence that is recognised worldwide, allowing you to rent equipment at any IKO-affiliated school. Beyond kitesurfing, the school offers wingfoil lessons, kite-foil sessions, and windsurfing instruction. For those who want to make a career of it, Kite Motion is the only school in Kenya offering IKO Instructor certification courses.
Equipment and Conditions
The school stocks the latest gear from FONE, Airush, Crazy Fly, and Vantage, with Mystic and Prolimit accessories. Full equipment rental starts at EUR 40 per hour or EUR 70 per day. Wingfoil sets rent at EUR 50 per hour. The primary kite seasons run from mid-December to early March and June to early September, when the trade winds blow consistently at 15 to 25 knots. The Galu Beach spot is ideal for learning — shallow, flat water with a clean sandy bottom stretching hundreds of metres from shore.
Practical Details
All bookings are handled via WhatsApp at +254 792 443761. The school coordinates accommodation with partner properties including Soul Breeze Resort (on-site), the KiteMotion Kite House (EUR 40 per night, 60 metres from the ocean), and several nearby hotels. Airport transfers and safari excursions can be arranged through the school. Bring reef shoes if you have them — they are available to rent but your own will be more comfortable. Book early in the wind season, as instructor availability fills quickly during peak months.
