Four Decades on the Reef
Diving the Crab has been introducing people to the reefs off Diani Beach since 1985. Based at Nomad Beach Bar, this PADI 5 Star IDC Centre runs everything from introductory Discover Scuba sessions for first-timers to full Instructor Development Courses for those making a career of it. A second dive centre on Chale Island — a 600-metre boat ride from the mainland — offers a more exclusive experience for resort guests.
What Sets It Apart
The team includes instructors who teach in English, German, French, and Swahili — a reflection of the international clientele drawn to Kenya's south coast. Five purpose-built dive boats (Mwezi, Kitty, Christine, Gadget, and the Chale Hopper) keep group sizes manageable. Kids' diving programs make it one of the few operators on the coast set up for families, and the Zero to Hero Internship offers a structured path from beginner to working divemaster.
Practical Details
The centre opens daily from 7am to 5pm. A single air dive starts at EUR 75, with a full boat trip at EUR 106. Cash payments in KES, EUR, or USD receive a 5% discount. Accommodation partners include Nomad Beach Resort (adjacent), Hibiscus House and Apartments (10% dive discount for guests), and Allamanda Boutique Hostel.
