Diani's coastline and its network of tidal rivers and mangrove estuaries offer a variety of boat experiences, from traditional dhow sailing to modern glass-bottom reef tours. The warm Indian Ocean waters remain navigable year-round, though the calmest conditions fall between October and March.

The sunset dhow cruise is Diani's signature waterborne experience. Traditional wooden dhows — hand-built sailing vessels that have plied the East African coast for centuries — carry passengers along the Kongo River estuary through ancient mangrove forests as the sun sets over the Indian Ocean. Most cruises last 2-3 hours and include a Swahili-style dinner.

Glass-bottom boat tours depart directly from Diani Beach and cruise over the fringing coral reef within the Diani-Chale Marine National Reserve. Through transparent hull panels, passengers can observe tropical fish, sea turtles, and coral formations without getting wet. Many tours include a snorkelling stop and a visit to Robinson Island's sandbank.

The Kongo River canoe experience offers a quieter alternative: a guided paddle through mangrove channels rich in birdlife — over 30 species inhabit the estuary — timed to catch the golden hour.
