Our Story and Connection to Diani

I am the founder of DianIGuide, and my connection to Kenya runs deep—I was born here, and as someone who is half Dutch and half Kenyan, I have always straddled the line between local resident and international traveler. I have family living right here in Diani, making me a regular visitor to this incredible stretch of coastline for many years.

Over the years, I have watched Diani Beach grow and evolve from a quiet coastal outpost into a vibrant destination that has so much to offer. Yet, despite its growth and its well-deserved reputation as one of Africa's best beaches, I noticed a frustrating gap: there was a glaring lack of easily accessible, reliable online information about the best places to go and the best things to do. Finding honest recommendations meant sifting through outdated forum posts or relying entirely on word of mouth. I started DianIGuide to change that.

A Kite Surfer's Paradise

One of my greatest personal passions is kite surfing, and I can confidently say that Diani is absolutely world-class when it comes to this sport. The combination of the consistent trade winds—the Kaskazi and the Kusi—alongside the protected, warm lagoon created by the offshore reef makes for conditions you can hardly find anywhere else in the world. Much of the advice you will find on this site regarding water sports comes from firsthand experience out on those very waters.

Our Editorial Standards

At DianIGuide, we believe that the best travel advice comes from genuine experience. Our goal is to provide a platform that you can trust completely when planning your trip. We are committed to the following editorial standards:

  • Firsthand Experience: Our recommendations are rooted in real, on-the-ground experience. We don't aggregate lists from other websites. When we recommend a beach bar, a snorkeling spot, or a boutique hotel, it is because we know the area intimately.
  • Honest Assessments: We highlight the absolute best of what Diani has to offer, but we also aim to be transparent about practicalities like budget, transport pricing, and safety. We want you to travel with confidence.
  • Local Knowledge: By combining international travel standards with deep local knowledge and community connections, we ensure our guides reflect both what a first-time visitor needs to know and what a seasoned local would recommend.
  • Up-to-Date Information: The coast is always changing—new restaurants open, road infrastructures improve (like the recent Dongo Kundu bypass), and seasonal weather patterns shift. We continuously update our content to reflect the current reality of Diani Beach.
